Fibromyalgia explained

Fibromyalgia is muscle or connective tissue pain. It is a syndrome that has not yet been properly explained medically. It involves chronic pain that is widespread and results in an increased sensitivity to pressure. The main symptoms of Fibromyalgia are: fatigue, joint stiffness and trouble sleeping. It is also not uncommon for sufferers to have problems swallowing, digestive upset including bowel and bladder function problems, numbness and even cognitive issues.

Fibromyalgia is also sometimes associated closely with psychiatric disorders. It is classified as a syndrome because it can have such a broad array of symptoms, all of which are very different, but related to the same underlying problem. There is no full-proof cure for it, but some treatments have been effective in controlling and reducing the symptoms to a point where they are manageable for sufferers. Treatments include therapy, both psychological and behavioral, medication, education and exercise.

Because it has not been fully explained or understood, Fibromyalgia is still a controversial diagnosis for a doctor to give. Because there are no clear, objective type tests for it, some members of the medical community will not consider it a disease. They refuse to recognize it as a legitimate syndrome because of the fact that it does not show up in terms of irregularities in physical examinations. There are also questions about its relation to other syndromes like chronic disease syndrome that have many of the same symptoms.

These dissenters content that Fibromyalgia may be the result of early childhood trauma or stress factors that cause the symptoms and that it is not a disease unto itself. Regardless of the cause or the definition, sufferers of Fibromyalgia basically are in pain all over their bodies. Their muscles are strained, their tendons ache and their bones ache. It can affect pretty much any age person, but is most common in women over men. Often the symptoms are compared to the achy feeling you get when you have the flu.

The pain is the worst of all the Fibromyalgia symptoms. It is a deep ache that alternates between throbbing and stabbing sensations. Sufferers report the worst pains in the morning and an easing of symptoms over the course of the day as muscles get used. The pain makes sufferers tired and lethargic. They report feeling like they have no energy or motivation. Part of this may be caused by a depression brought on by the constant pain that you feel like you cannot do anything about. Since Fibromyalgia also make it difficult to get a good night’s sleep, sufferers are often overly tired and go through their days in a fog.

Since there is no cure for Fibromyalgia, the best that patients can hope for right now is a reduction in symptoms and improvements in their ability to sleep. Doctors will often send patients to a sleep clinic to have a sleep study done. This will help them determine the best treatment methods to improve the quality of the patients sleep and to reduce their pain level. When these things can be improved, then the patient has more energy and is better able to focus on feeling better and has a more positive mental outlook. Without help, these symptoms pile up on one another and tend to snowball until the patient feels totally helpless and miserable.

If you are suffering with Fibromyalgia then you should consider the services of a physiotherapy and hydrotherapy clinic in Canada. They have hi-tech equipment that is geared towards helping ease the pain of Fibromyalgia sufferers.
