Laser Therapy / Electro Therapy

An alternative treatment where light energy is used to accelerate the healing process and to decrease inflamation. With the use of a specific device, light energy penetrates the skin approximately 5 cm into the tissue, promoting the process of photobiostimulation (increased cellular metabolism).

Common uses for Laser therapy include:

  • Repetitive Stress Injury
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Myofascial Pain Syndrome
  • Arthritis
  • Tendonitis
  • Tennis elbow
  • Shoulder bursitis
  • Disc derangements
  • Nerve pain
  • Muscle pain
  • Pre/Post - operative pain control

Ultrasound

UltrasoundHigh frequency sound energy is delivered through an ultrasound device which causes molecules in the tissue to vibrate, thereby producing heat and mechanical energy. This promotes tissue-healing and pain-reduction when it is applied to the surface of injured areas.

Ultrasound is used for the following:

  • Increases blood flow
  • Relaxes muscle spasms
  • Reduces nerve root irritation
  • Massages demaged tissues
  • Reducing calcium deposition
  • Enhances the body's natural healing ability

Muscle Stimulation (M.S.) & Transcutaneal Electric Nervous Stimulation (T.E.N.S.)

An alternative treatment is to stimulate motor nerves by applying an electrical pulse.
Both M.S and T.E.N.S are based on the same principle. However, M.S provides a stronger stimulation than T.E.N.S and allows a controlled relaxation period between stimulations. Both modalities assist in reducing pain, increasing local blood circulation and healing wounds.

Beneficial results have been achieved in treating a wide range of injuries including:

  • Strain/Sprains
  • Whiplash
  • Bursitis
  • Tendenitis
  • Arthritis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Local pain because of chronic muscle contraction and cramping
  • Neuropathy

Microcurrent Therapy (Low Frequency Current Therapy)

Uses extremely small amounts of electrical current (millionths of an amp) to help relieve pain and heal soft tissues of the body. Since an injury to the body disrupts its normal electrical activity, Microcurrent therapy is used to produce the same electrical signals as ones that are occuring when the body is repairing damaged tissues. This enhances the healing process. Microcurrent therapy is recommended in cases such as soft tissue inflamation or muscle spasm.

Benefits of using Microcurrent therapy are:

  • Helps speed the healing process
  • Improves soft tissue regeneration
  • Reduces inflammation and swelling
  • Masks acute and chronic pain
  • Releases muscle trigger points

Iontophoresis

This is effective and painless method of transfering water-soluble ionic drugs ie. Cortisone, throught the skin directly to localized tissue requiring treatment by using low level electrical current.

Applications of Iontophoresis are:

  • Local anesthetics
  • Treatment of joint or muscular disorders (Epicondylitis, Tendonitis)
  • Providing antiinflamatory treatment of early, mild Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Disolving calcium deposits
  • Treatment of fungal infections, such as tineapedia (athlete's foot)
